Our Heritage

A 160 Year Old Business

A 160 Year Old BusinessFerri machine shop was established in 1844 by Giovanni Ferri in Tamara, who worked as a blacksmith for local farming. Since then, four generations have gone by at Ferri, bringing the company to today’s international standards.

Ferri’s history begins with the tools grandfather Giovanni used to build to relieve the labor of the local farmers and soon arrives to young Ulisse Ferri’s engineering tools.

1960 was a technical turning point for the company, which began to apply industrial construction principles in the development of the rotary hoe cutter.

Some of these machines are still in use. In 1969, Ferri produced its first shredder, and in 1979 the first hydraulic hedgecutter marked the company’s entrance in the green-road side maintenance world. Over 20,000 of these machines have been produced so far.

The Nineties saw the erection of modern plants with industrial painting and installation systems.

2004 was the year of another technological breakthrough, with the introduction of automatic assembly lines for hedgecutters, finished product storage and handling systems. In the hedgecutter domain, Ferri is the only European company to have introduced this machine assembly and testing system.

Such operations can only be justified by large sales volumes. 1,500 units a year are produced.

An important technical aspect that has been introduced in the manufacture of hydraulic arms is the forging technique; the forged parts strengthen the construction as well as improving its design.

Ferri’s growth, which has been briefly summarized herein, has these certainties in store for the future: technological and structural improvements as well as more and more accurate quality control methods. As you can see, even after 160 years the entrepreneurial spirit of our family is perfectly preserved, and this is how we want to hand it down to the next generations.
